Content Design: Creator Onboarding

Summary

As a content designer at Meta Platforms, Inc., I led the content development of this creator onboarding flow, which facilitated the scaling of Meta’s platform for independent journalism. This onboarding experience allows a new Bulletin creator/journalist to set up their Bulletin account and guides them through the creation of their publication and first article.

The Challenge

Business Goals

  • Convert Bulletin’s employee-managed creator onboarding program to a scalable, automated onboarding experience for creators of all experience levels

  • Help new creators start growing their readership quickly upon onboarding to support increase in Bulletin subscriptions, driving site revenue

  • Onboard 1,000 creators by EOY

User Goals

  • Create a short, easy-to-understand onboarding experience that introduces new creators to the Bulletin independent journalism ecosystem and sets them up for success by guiding them through their account creation, publication site, and first article

  • Integrate best practices educational content to help less experienced creators understand their readership metrics, journalism best practices, and more

My Contributions

  • Collaborated with manual creator onboarding team and UX research to understand creator pain points and determine which skills are most impactful for new creators looking to grow readership for their publications

  • Worked with UX design to draft and implement initial barebones iteration of onboarding flow, including Bulletin account setup, publication site setup, and creation of first publication

  • Submitted flow for legal and privacy team reviews to ensure safe handling of user data and that all applicable Bulletin non-disclosure agreements were included in onboarding flow (project was still in beta)

  • After user testing, drafted V2 of onboarding flow with more robust creator education covering topics such as publication naming, image selection, writing tips, and other best practices

  • Met our numerical goal regarding Bulletin creator sign-ups, creator satisfaction, and creator autonomy
